Colour, vibration and a Mediterranean visual language: the pictorial force of Xavi García at Galería Thema (Valencia)

The current solo exhibition by Xavi García, presented at Galería Thema, Valencia, and open until 19 June 2026, offers an immersion into a highly expressive pictorial universe where colour ceases to be merely material and becomes energy, rhythm and emotional structure.

Xavi García’s work unfolds through a distinctive visual language rooted in a profoundly Mediterranean sensibility: light, contrast, movement and a compositional freedom that resists formal rigidity. His surfaces become open territories where gesture, symbol, memory and visual fragments coexist naturally.

What strikes the viewer first is the vibrational quality of colour. Electric pinks, luminous yellows, turquoise tones and deep blacks create tensions that never feel accidental. There is an internal architecture in which each colour activates the next, generating movement, depth and visual expansion.

Beyond the chromatic intensity, the work reveals something particularly compelling for contemporary collectors: multiple layers of reading. The paintings operate powerfully from a distance through their spatial presence, yet reward closer observation with signs, structures and subtle pictorial events that build an open narrative.

Depth is not achieved through conventional perspective but through contrast, superimposition and internal resonance. The paintings breathe; they advance and recede. Areas of stillness alternate with moments of heightened intensity, producing a uniquely immersive visual experience.

At a time when much contemporary production increasingly shifts towards conceptual and technological territories, Xavi García’s practice reaffirms the power of painting as a physical and sensory experience while maintaining a recognisable identity and an unmistakably personal language.

The exhibition also reinforces the role of Galería Thema within Valencia’s artistic landscape, continuing to support projects in which painting remains a field of research, experimentation and contemporary relevance.
